Joy Cuba Gershkowitz
March 5, 1933 - August 21, 2021
Joy passed on August 21st with her loving husband, Jerry, of 61 years by her side. Joy was born in Brooklyn, New York, and moved to the Inwood section of Manhattan. She graduated from Hunter High School and then Hunter College in June 1954 with a BA degree in pre-med. On March 26th, 1960, she married her husband and partner for life, Jerry. In 1973, they moved to Old Bridge, New Jersey and then in 1980 to Aberdeen, New Jersey. From 1973 to 1987, Joy worked as a substitute teacher in the Old Bridge School District. Joy raised three wonderful children, Lori Gleason Braun (Terry) who was a special education teacher in Old Bridge, Robert Gershkowitz (Jennifer) who is an emergency room doctor in Ohio, and Debra Letang Wohner (Mark) who works for the Delaware Department of Justice. Joy has seven grandchildren. Danielle Stanfield (Justin), Sean Gleason, Nicholas and Samantha Letang, Grace, Bradley, and Gregory Gershkowitz, and one great grandchild, Finn Gregory Stanfield who was her “pleasure” and pride and joy. Joy enjoyed spending time with her family, going to Atlantic City, and playing Bingo and Mahjong. She loved watching trivia and game shows, and was a master at Jeopardy. She was loved and will be missed by everyone who knew her.
